Larry Gust, IBE President of the Board (since 1994): Lawrence Gust, BBEI, EE, is a Building Biologist and Electrical Engineer, and a faculty member of the International Institute for Building-Biology & Ecology.
Jeanne McLaughlin, IBE Treasurer of the Board, Board Member (since 2009): Jeanne McLaughlin, BBEC, is a certified Building Biology Environmental Consultant and the Building Biology Practitioner Coordinator for IBE. Jeanne is a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner on the Board of Fung Shui Institute International, FSII, a Reiki Master, and a Laugh-a Yoga teacher.
Paula Baker-Laporte, FAIA, IBE Board Member (since 2015), is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. She co-developed and co-instructs our Natural Healthy Building & Remodeling Seminar, IBE 213. Paula is the primary author ofPrescriptions for a Healthy House, 1st,-3rd edition, (New Society Publishers 2008) and co-author, with her husband Robert Laporte, of EcoNest: Creating Sustainable Sanctuaries of Clay, Straw and Timber, (Gibbs Smith, 2005). She is a contributing author to several other books.
Christopher Bell, IBE Board Member (since 2007): Christopher Bell, BBEC, is a lawyer and an international educator. He is an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Sustainable Living Department and the Business Administration Department at Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa. Chris also serves on the Advisory Board of the Institute of Vedic City Planning, Maharishi University of Management, The Netherlands.
M. Spark Burmaster, IBE Board Member (since 1993): Spark Burmaster, BBEI, EE, is a certified Building Biology Environmental Inspector, Electrical Engineer, national EMF mitigation expert, and a faculty member of the International Institute for Building-Biology & Ecology.
Sonia Hoglander, MBA, BBEC (board member since 2012), owner of HomEvolution Consulting, is an electrical engineer with an extensive background in project and program management, IT and communications solutions consulting, business planning, sales and marketing consulting. She is co-chairperson, with Chris Bell, of IBE's partnership marketing committee.
Alex Stadtner, IBE Board Member (Since 2016): Alex Stadtner, IBE board member (since 2016) is founder, president, and senior consultant of Healthy Building Science. His path toward environmental work began in college, where he earned a degree in Environmental Science & Environmental Policy. After college he worked for two years as a Sustainability Manager at Antioch College, before moving to New Hampshire to earn an MS in Resource Management & Administration at Antioch, New England. After graduate school, he worked with green building consulting pioneers at the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems in Austin, and then a Portland-based company specializing in third-party building rating systems, especially LEED. Since then Alex has earned his BBEC, and six additional national certifications in environmental inspection, testing, and mitigation in his ongoing devotion to bridging the gap between environmental science and building science.
Andrew Pace, IBE Board Member (since 2018) is founder and owner of the Green Design Center®, which operates six retail locations, with others planned for the future. He is a past board member of the USGBC-WI Affiliate, and two-time president of the Construction Specifications Institute-Milwaukee Chapter. In 2003, he received the Citation for Distinguished Service from the American Institute of Architects. Andrew has been a materials consultant for numerous LEED®, NAHB®, Healthy Child Healthy World®, and Green Built Homes® projects, and his articles on healthy home construction have been published regionally and nationally. In 2008, he launched Degree of Green®, a new green building product rating system being used by retailers and manufacturers to educate consumers and eliminate confusion. He is currently developing protocols for the FRAT method (formaldehyde release attenuation test), which will allow IAQ professionals to pinpoint the exact surfaces in a home that are releasing dangerous levels of formaldehyde.
Susannah Ziehe, Board Member ex officio, spouse of IBE's venerable founder Helmut Ziehe. Susannah's involvement in IBE began in 1998 when she studied the Mini Course, which subsequently evolved into IBE101, Natural Healthy Buildings, under Helmut’s tutelage. Reconnecting with Helmut led to her relocation from Seattle to Florida in 2000, their marriage, and her work in the administration of the Building Biology study programs and seminars. Susannah recalls that one of her first projects was revamping the IBE website to accommodate the new Building Biology Online Study Program. Assisting Helmut realize his dream of seeing Building Biology courses online was an exciting time.
